The Mitzvah
The last of the 613 mitzvos
Every Jew is commanded to write a Sefer Torah. It is the final mitzvah in the Torah, and one of the most precious.
The Lubavitcher Rebbe called on every Jew, adults and children alike, to own a letter in a Sefer Torah. Each letter joins its owner to every other participant. The finished scroll becomes a living sign of Jewish unity.
וּבָעֵת הַהִיא יִמָּלֵט עַמְּךָ כׇּל הַנִּמְצָא כָּתוּב בַּסֵּפֶר
“At that time, your people will be delivered, everyone who is found inscribed in the book.”
Daniel 12:1
The Rebbe explained that a letter, a verse or more in a Sefer Torah brings protection to each participant.
א
For the whole family
Dedicate a letter for every person in your home, from the eldest to the newest arrival.
ב
Every letter counts
A Sefer Torah missing a single letter is incomplete. Every participant is essential to the whole.
ג
A rare occasion
A community writes a new Sefer Torah at its milestone moments. Forty years is one of them.
