Chabad Lubavitch of South London
The South London Sefer Torah
Terms of Donation
Last updated 26 October 2026
These terms apply to every gift made to The South London Sefer Torah campaign, online or by bank transfer. The campaign is run by Chabad Lubavitch of South London, a registered charity in England and Wales, no. 1154533, 42 St George’s Rd, London SW19 4ED.
Your gift
Every dedication is a voluntary donation to Chabad Lubavitch of South London. Your gift funds the writing of the Sefer Torah and its completion celebration. Any funds raised beyond those costs support the charitable work of Chabad Lubavitch of South London.
Your dedication gives you a share in the mitzvah of writing this Sefer Torah. The completed Sefer Torah will be kept by Chabad Lubavitch of South London for the use of the Jewish community of South London and Surrey.
Dedications
- Letters and verses are unlimited. Letters and verses are allocated by Chabad Lubavitch of South London.
- Parshiyos and the Atzei Chaim, Yad, Hachnosas Sefer Torah and Book Dedication can each be dedicated once, in the order payments are completed. If two donors complete payment for the same dedication at the same moment, we will offer the later donor another dedication or a full refund.
- A Sefer Torah contains only the sacred text, so the names you give us are recorded in our dedication register. With your permission, the wording of a parsha or single dedication also appears on its gold plate on the campaign page.
- The Book Dedication is printed in A New Sefer Torah by Rabbi Nissan Dovid Dubov. We will agree the wording with you before printing.
- The Hachnosas Sefer Torah sponsorship is acknowledged at the celebration. We set the date and arrangements.
Please make sure the names you give are spelled as you want them recorded. Email us within 14 days if you need to correct them.
Payment
Online payments are taken in pounds sterling by Stripe on its secure checkout. Your receipt is sent by email. You can also give by bank transfer using the details on the campaign page; please email us your dedication so we can record it.
Gift Aid
Gift Aid is available only to UK taxpayers. By choosing Gift Aid, you declare that you are a UK taxpayer and understand that if you pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax in that tax year than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all your donations, it is your responsibility to pay any difference.
Tell us if you want to cancel your declaration, change your name or home address, or no longer pay enough tax on your income or capital gains.
Refunds
Donations are not normally refundable. If you made a mistake, such as a duplicate payment or the wrong amount, email us within 30 days and we will refund it. If we refund a donation, we will not claim Gift Aid on it.
Timing
The Sefer Torah is being written by a sofer in Eretz Yisroel and is expected to take approximately a year. Dates for its completion and celebration are estimates, and we will keep donors informed of any change.
If, for reasons beyond our control, the Sefer Torah cannot be completed, we will use the funds for the charitable purposes of Chabad Lubavitch of South London, as close as possible to the purpose you gave for.
