Privacy Policy

Last updated 26 October 2026

This policy explains how Chabad Lubavitch of South London (“we”, “us”) collects and uses personal information through The South London Sefer Torah website. We are a registered charity in England and Wales, no. 1154533, and the controller of the personal data described here.

Questions about your data: email nissandovid@gmail.com or write to us at 42 St George’s Rd, London SW19 4ED.

What we collect

When you dedicate online: your name, email address and billing address; the names and occasion you give for your dedication; your Gift Aid choice; the dedication you chose and the amount.

Your card details are entered on Stripe’s secure checkout. They never reach us, and we never store them.

When you give by bank transfer: your name and payment reference from our bank statement, and the details you send us by email.

When you browse: our web host keeps standard server logs, such as IP address and browser type, to keep the site secure. We also use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people read, so we can improve the site. It records the pages you view, how you reached the site, your type of device and your approximate location.

Names of other people: a dedication often names a family member, or a loved one who has passed away. Please give us only names you are comfortable sharing.

How we use it

  • To process your donation and send your receipt.
  • To record your dedication in the campaign’s dedication register.
  • To show parshiyos and single dedications as taken on this website. A dedication’s wording appears on its plate only with the donor’s permission; otherwise we show the word “Dedicated”.
  • To claim Gift Aid from HMRC, where you have asked us to.
  • To keep the financial records the law requires.
  • To understand how visitors use this website, so we can improve it.
  • To tell you about the progress of the Sefer Torah and its completion celebration. You can ask us to stop at any time.

We do not sell, rent or trade your information, and we will not send you news about our other activities unless you have agreed.

Our lawful bases

We process your donation, your dedication and updates about the Sefer Torah on the basis of our legitimate interests in running this campaign and honouring your gift. We process Gift Aid and financial records to meet our legal obligations to HMRC and the Charity Commission. We use Google Analytics on the basis of our legitimate interest in improving this website, and you can object at any time, as set out under Cookies.

Because a dedication relates to Jewish religious practice, it can reveal information about religious belief. We process it as a not-for-profit religious body, in the course of our legitimate activities and with appropriate safeguards, and we do not disclose it outside the charity without your consent.

Who we share it with

  • Stripe, our payment processor, which handles card payments under its own privacy policy.
  • HMRC, when we claim Gift Aid on your donation.
  • Google, which provides Google Analytics and processes visit data under its own privacy policy.
  • Our website host, Bluehost, which stores this site and its server logs.
  • Our accountants and independent examiners, who review our financial records.

Stripe and Google may process data outside the UK. Where they do, your data is protected by safeguards recognised under UK data protection law.

How long we keep it

Donation and Gift Aid records: at least six years after the end of the financial year they relate to, as HMRC requires.

The dedication register: kept as a lasting record of the Sefer Torah. Ask us at any time to remove a name you gave us.

Server logs: 60 days.

Analytics data: up to 14 months.

Cookies

This website uses the cookies it needs to work, and Google Analytics cookies that count visits so we can improve the site. You can refuse analytics cookies free of charge by installing Google’s opt-out add-on or by blocking cookies in your browser settings. When you go to checkout, Stripe sets its own cookies on its checkout page to prevent fraud and keep payments secure.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of your data, and ask us to correct it, delete it, limit how we use it or transfer it. You can object to how we use it, and you can cancel a Gift Aid declaration at any time. Email us and we will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would welcome the chance to put things right first.

Changes to this policy

We will post any changes on this page and update the date above.
